Velocity weight function and its applications in kinetic theory

段仁军香港中文大学教授,是我国知名的青年数学家。段仁军教授长期从事非线性偏微分方程的研究,特别是在玻尔兹曼方程和耗散性偏微分方程的研究中作出了重要意义的工作,成果发表在在国际上重要杂志如:CPAM,ARMA, CMP, SIAM Math. ANA.上,并在国际上产生了重要的影响。

Abstract:In this talk, I will first survey several important applications of the velocity weight functions to the global well-posedness theory for the Boltzmann equation near Maxwellians. These include the classical results by Caflisch, Ukai and Guo. After then, I will talk about the time-velocity dependent exponential weight functions for which the large velocities grow in time with an explicit rate. The role of such weight function is to induce an extra dissipation term which is vanishing in large time. The idea was first introduced joint with Zhao and Yang (JDE 2012; M3AS 2013). Similar applications in other contexts such as vacuum problem, fuid limit problem and IBVP with physical boundaries will also be commented.
